A Summer Refresher

Well, we’ve all suffered this week from the excessive heat and we’re only in the first half of July.  Who knows what’s in store as we finish the month and August looms.

Now I’m not usually one of those real estate agents who sends out recipes, but I thought I would share one of my favorite summer drink recipes. I hope you like it.  It’s called Ginger Hibiscus Iced Tea and it’s my own creation. I made it for the first time  a few years ago and for the first this summer on Monday.  And oh my, it’s soooooo refreshing, healthy and good.  It’s low calorie and low carbs so you can drink as much as you want.

2 inches of fresh ginger peeled and sliced

5 ½ cups of water

4 Tazo Passion (hibiscus) tea bags

5-6 packets of *stevia

Bring the ginger to boil in 2 cups of water.  Reduce heat to low/simmer for 25 minutes.  Boil the remaining water  in a pot.  Remove from burner and add the 4 teabags and the ginger water. (Remove the ginger).  Let steep and cool down.  Add the stevia.  Pour into a pitcher and keep refrigerated.  Serve ice cold. Add lemon or mint for a different spin on the recipe.

*Not familiar with the natural sweetener, Stevia—here’s a link.

Last week’s blog was on biking and bike paths.  Check out some of my photos from recent bike rides on the trails of the DC Metro area.  Take a bike ride. There’s almost always a cooling breeze on the shady trails.

Stay cool!

Check me out on Flickr to see all of the photos I took on the great bike and walking paths we’re so lucky to have.
